A Night to Remember: Byron Bay Pub Crawl

Last Friday, our Lexis English students enjoyed an unforgettable night out exploring some of Byron Bay’s best bars on a classic pub crawl — and what a night it was!

We kicked things off around 5 PM at the iconic Beach Hotel, where the ocean breeze, cold drinks, and great company set the perfect tone for the evening. Students grabbed their favorite beverages, shared some delicious food, and soaked in the laid-back Byron vibe while a live band played in the background. It was the perfect start — music, sunsets, and smiles all around.

From there, we strolled over to the buzzing Northern Hotel. Spirits were high as we ordered another round of drinks — with some of the girls going for mojitos and the ever-popular drink of the day. We ended up staying longer than planned, thanks to the incredible dueling pianos performance that lit up the night. Everyone joined in, singing our hearts out to some of the greatest hits of all time. It was pure energy, laughter, and unforgettable moments.

To round off the night, we made our way to The Rails, another local favorite known for its live music and casual atmosphere. With another talented band playing, we danced, mingled, and enjoyed the warm Byron evening to the fullest.

Whether it was the music, the drinks, or just the amazing people, this pub crawl was one for the books. We can’t wait to do it all again soon!

Located right across from the main beach, The Beach Hotel (affectionately known as “The Beachie”) is one of Byron Bay’s most iconic venues. With its unbeatable ocean views, relaxed vibe, and regular live music, it’s the perfect spot to kick off a night out or unwind after a day in the sun. Whether you’re sipping a cold drink on the lawn or enjoying a meal with friends, the Beach Hotel captures everything we love about the Byron lifestyle — laid-back, lively, and always welcoming.

What Is a Dueling Pianos Show?

A dueling pianos show is a high-energy, interactive musical performance featuring two pianists who engage in a friendly “battle” of the keys. Each pianist takes turns playing songs—often based on audience requests—while singing and entertaining the crowd. The atmosphere is lively, with humor, audience participation, and a diverse repertoire spanning rock, pop, R&B, and classic hits.

The term “dueling pianos” originated from early 20th-century New Orleans, where pianists would compete in musical duels. Today, this format has evolved into a popular form of live entertainment in bars and clubs, offering an engaging experience for audiences.

Audience interaction is a key element of dueling pianos shows. Patrons can request songs—often accompanied by tips—and enjoy spontaneous performances, sing-alongs, and comedic bits. The pianists’ ability to adapt to the crowd’s energy and preferences makes each show unique and memorable.
