To finish off our week, last Friday, 80 of our students squeezed into our biggest classroom to learn Australian Slang and taste some classic Australian food!
Our students watched some videos about Australian slang and, then played an ‘Aussie Slang Bingo.’
Some of the words and phrases our students learnt included:
- ‘Good on ya mate’ = Good job!
- Tinnie = Beer
- Arvo = Afternoon
- Servo = Service station
- Sheila = Woman
- Bloke = Man
- Avo = Avocado
- Ta = Thank you
- G’day Mate = Hello
- Macca’s = McDonald’s
After discussing some slang and having lots of laughs, the Australian food was brought out, which is what the students were most excited for.
The students tried Milo, Vegemite, Fairy Bread, ANZAC Biscuits, Lamingtons, Tim Tams, Twisties, meat pies and sausage rolls!
ANZAC biscuits and lamingtons were fan favorites, whilst as usual, vegemite was the most disliked.
The students also mentioned that they loved the Tim Tams, but had already tried them, so they weren’t as impressive as the other food.
Our students absolutely love this activity, it is always a hit! We can’t wait for our next Aussie food and Slang activity.
