Lexis Byron Bay Activity Recap: A Week of Wellness, Adventure, and Scenic Beauty
At Lexis Byron Bay, we believe in creating not just great classroom experiences but unforgettable memories outside of class as well. Last week was packed with exciting activities that brought students closer to nature, fostered new friendships, and offered the chance to explore the stunning surroundings of Byron Bay. Here’s a quick look back at what we got up to!
Yoga – Tuesday, May 7th
At Lexis Byron Bay, we believe in balancing study with relaxation, and what better way to unwind than with a rejuvenating yoga session? Today, our students had the chance to stretch, breathe, and reset with Elizabeth, one of our amazing teachers who is also a certified yoga instructor.
Elizabeth guided the students through a gentle flow, focusing on deep stretches, controlled breathing, and calming the mind. Whether students were experienced yogis or complete beginners, everyone found their rhythm and enjoyed the moment. The session was the perfect way to recharge after a busy day of studying.
We love bringing wellness into our school community, and we’re looking forward to more yoga afternoons with Elizabeth.
Waves to Waterfalls Tour – Wednesday, May 8th
What better way to spend a sunny Australian afternoon than exploring the best of what nature has to offer? Our Waves to Waterfall tour with Let’s Go Surfing was nothing short of spectacular!
They started the adventure at 1:45 PM, heading straight to Lennox Head, where students took a refreshing swim at the stunning Lake Ainsworth. This unique tea tree lake, infused with natural oils from surrounding trees, is known for its rich cultural and historical significance. The Bundjalung people, the Traditional Custodians of this land, have long valued the lake for its healing properties. With the sun shining and the temperature perfect, the students couldn’t have asked for a better start to the trip!
Next up was the surf lesson, where the real action began. Mark guided the students through an exciting surf lesson. After the surf session, we recharged with a well-deserved snack and some cold water, soaking in the beach vibes before heading to our final destination.
The last stop was the breathtaking Killen Falls. After a scenic walk through lush, bushy trails, we arrived at the waterfall—a true hidden gem. The cool, cascading waters provided the perfect way to refresh after an action-packed day.
By 4:30 PM, we were back, sun-kissed and full of incredible memories. From tea tree lakes to epic waves and waterfalls, the Waves to Waterfall tour was an absolute hit! The students had an amazing time, and we can’t wait to do it all over again.
Lighthouse Walk – Thursday, May 9th
We wrapped up the week with a classic Byron experience: the lighthouse walk. Starting from the school, we followed the winding coastal track up to the iconic Cape Byron Lighthouse—the most easternly point of mainland Australia. Along the way, students enjoyed spectacular ocean views and took plenty of photos.
We hit a few showers along the way, but they didn’t stop us from enjoying the scenery. The views were still great, and the rain didn’t last long.
Fun Facts About Cape Byron Lighthouse
-
Easternmost Point of Mainland Australia
The lighthouse sits on the easternmost tip of mainland Australia, meaning it’s the first place in the country to see the sunrise each day. -
Over a Century Old
It was built in 1901, making it more than 120 years old! It’s one of the most iconic and photographed lighthouses in the country. -
Still Operational
The lighthouse still functions today. Its light can be seen up to 27 nautical miles (around 50 km) out to sea and is powered by a 1000-watt lamp. -
Wildlife Spotting Hotspot
The headland around the lighthouse is an excellent spot for whale watching during the migration season (May to November), as well as spotting dolphins and sea turtles. -
Highest Lighthouse Above Sea Level
While not the tallest lighthouse structure, Cape Byron’s elevation puts its light at the highest point above sea level of any lighthouse on the Australian mainland — about 94 meters (308 feet) above sea
After taking in the sweeping views from the top, we made our way to a local bakery to treat ourselves. Nothing beats the post-walk reward of a cozy hot chocolate and a selection of sweet pastries! It was the perfect way to relax, warm up, and chat about the week’s adventures with new friends.
