Brisbane – Activity Recap: Food and Craft City Market, Decorating Cookies and Valentine’s Day Fun and Games

What a vibrant and engaging week it’s been at Lexis Brisbane. We began by visiting the city markets, where students explored a wide range of foods from different cultures and discovered small stalls selling handcrafted goods such as crochet flowers and hand-painted mugs. Valentine’s celebrations started a little early with a cookie-decorating activity, featuring pink frosting and plenty of sprinkles.
Some particularly creative students even turned their cookies into impressive versions of the famous Starry Night painting. To finish the week, everyone came together to play games and create Galentine’s and Pal-entine’s cards for one another, ending the week on a warm and social note.
Recently, our classes have been heading out on excursions to explore more of Brisbane beyond the classroom. Some groups have been hunting down and learning about the city’s vibrant street art, discovering hidden murals and the stories behind them. In contrast, others have taken on the role of food critics, visiting and reviewing a variety of restaurants across Brisbane.
These outings not only give students the chance to experience more of the city’s culture, but also provide valuable opportunities to practise English in real-life situations.
Every Monday, we welcome new students as they begin their English journey with us at Lexis Brisbane. To help them feel comfortable in their new environment, we take them on an orientation walk around the city, introducing them to key locations and allowing them to become familiar with their surroundings. Along the way, we capture some fun snapshots of them exploring, settling in, and starting to build new connections and friendships from day one.

This week, students enjoyed a fun and creative cookie-decorating activity. Using pink frosting, sprinkles, and other decorations, they brought their ideas to life — with some even transforming their cookies into mini versions of famous artworks. The activity was a great way for everyone to get creative, have fun, and share a sweet treat with friends while celebrating Valentine’s a little early.

This week, our new students went on a city walk to get familiar with Brisbane and start settling into their new environment. During the outing, they visited the Australian souvenir store and were excited to find Uniqlo, a popular brand from their home countries. The group enjoyed ice cream and snacks as they explored, making the most of a fun day discovering everything Brisbane has to offer.
This week, our classes went on two exciting outings to explore Brisbane. The Pre-Intermediate class went on a street art tour, discovering vibrant murals around the city and learning about the stories behind them. Meanwhile, the Intermediate class visited a local ramen restaurant, sampling different dishes and practising their English by reviewing the food and sharing their opinions. Both outings were a great way for students to experience Brisbane’s culture while developing their language skills in real-life situations.
For our Valentine’s Day celebration, students got creative by making cards for their friends, celebrating their “gals and pals.” The group also played games together, sharing laughter and enjoying each other’s company, making it a fun and memorable way to connect with classmates.
Thank you to everyone who joined our Activities this week!
