A Burst of Creativity on a Colourful Afternoon
On a bright and joyful afternoon of 3 April, the Lexis English Brisbane campus was transformed into a vibrant, rainbow-hued creative space! Over 50 enthusiastic students gathered in our student lounge to participate in one of the most anticipated events of the month—Tote Bag Tie-Dye Day!
Armed with white canvas bags, gloves, rubber bands, and an impressive range of dye colours, our students were ready to get their hands messy and unleash their inner artists. Some opted for the classic spiral technique, others went with stripes, crumples, or free-style experimentation. No two bags looked the same—each was a unique masterpiece and a reflection of each student’s personality.
From the moment the activity started, the lounge buzzed with laughter, music, and light-hearted chatter. It was amazing to see how something as simple as dyeing a tote bag could bring people together from different countries, cultures, and language levels. Within minutes, strangers were laughing side by side, offering tips, sharing colours, and complimenting each other’s work.
More Than Just Dye—It Was Friendship in the Making
Beyond the artistic fun, this event was really about building connection and community. As dyes soaked into fabric, friendships were being dyed into existence too. Groups formed naturally as people asked to borrow colours or admired the work of the person next to them. New students who had only just arrived in Brisbane found themselves already making friends, laughing over dye-splattered hands and brainstorming ideas for their next creation.
These moments of connection are what Lexis English is all about. Our mission goes far beyond teaching grammar and vocabulary. Events like this are key to that vision—they help students practice English in a relaxed setting, meet peers from around the world, and feel more at home in their new environment.

Once the bags were finished and drying, the excitement didn’t stop—everyone was posing with their creations, snapping selfies and group photos, and showing off their favourite patterns. Some even began planning when and where they’d use their new tote bags—whether for grocery shopping, beach days, or just as a colourful keepsake from their time in Australia.
And let’s not forget, tie-dye isn’t just fun—it’s functional! Each student left the session not just with new friends and colourful memories, but also with a cool and custom bag that they could actually use. It was the perfect blend of creativity, practicality, and cultural exchange.
