A Game-Filled Afternoon to Remember
On 10 April, the student lounge at Lexis English Brisbane turned into the ultimate hangout zone with one unbeatable combo—popcorn and board games! There’s something truly magical about bringing people together through games, especially when the goal is to have fun, make new friends, and speak English naturally in a relaxed, supportive environment.
With bowls of warm, buttery popcorn making their rounds and laughter echoing throughout the room, it was easy to see that everyone was in for a great time. Students from different classes and countries bonded over shared fun, friendly competition, and a few unexpected surprises from our chosen games. Whether you were new to board games or a certified game night pro, there was something for everyone.

We carefully picked a mix of exciting, funny, and slightly chaotic games that are perfect for getting people talking, laughing, and getting a little competitive.
What Is It?
A quirky guessing game that’s all about imagination! Players draw strange, unidentifiable objects and others have to guess what it could possibly be. The fun part? There are no wrong answers—just lots of creativity, funny suggestions, and unexpected interpretations. This game sparked great conversations and hilarious drawings that had the whole table in stitches.
Throw Throw Burrito
Yes, it’s exactly what it sounds like—and no, you’re not dreaming! A mix between a card game and dodgeball, Throw Throw Burrito had students collecting matching cards while also ducking, diving, and laughing as they hurled squishy burrito toys across the room. It was fast, it was silly, and it was absolutely one of the highlights of the afternoon.
Jenga
A classic that never fails to bring suspense and giggles. Each player carefully pulled wooden blocks from the tower, hoping not to be the one who sent it crashing down. With each shaky pull, the room held its breath—then burst into laughter when the inevitable fall came. Jenga proved to be the perfect icebreaker, giving everyone something to rally around and cheer for.
Dobble (a.k.a. Spot It!)
This fast-paced visual perception game had everyone shouting over each other in the best way. Players raced to match symbols on circular cards—sounds simple, but when the pressure’s on, it becomes a hilarious challenge. Quick thinking, keen eyes, and a bit of friendly rivalry made Dobble an instant favourite.
Snacks, Smiles, and Shared Moments
Of course, no game day is complete without snacks, and our popcorn station did not disappoint. The smell of freshly popped corn filled the room, and students happily munched away between turns and rounds. Sharing food is always a great way to bring people together, and combined with the fun atmosphere, it made this afternoon feel like a true community celebration.
Laughter was the main soundtrack of the day, and whether people were playing, watching, or just chatting on the sidelines, everyone was engaged and enjoying themselves. Many students said they met someone new, learned a new game, and were already looking forward to the next one.
