Brisbane – Activity Recap: Koalas, Snakes, even baby Crocodiles, Australia Food tasting and Decorating our campus for our Australia Week – 23rd January
Lexis Brisbane filled the week with a wide range of engaging activities to help students experience true Australian culture both in and out of the classroom. Students had the opportunity to try new activities and learn interesting facts about Australia. One of the standout moments of the week was meeting some of Australia’s finest reptiles and animals, giving students a unique and memorable hands-on experience. It was a fantastic week full of learning, fun, and culture.
Throughout the week, our student lounge was transformed as students decorated the space with Australian and Aboriginal flags, created their own artwork, and proudly displayed their pieces around campus. Students also took the time to learn about the true significance of Australia Day, gaining a deeper understanding of its meaning and history. A major highlight was the return of our infamous Aussie Animal Show, where students learned over 100 fascinating facts about snakes, different species of lizards, crocodiles, and more.
To wrap up our Aussie Week celebrations, we held an Australian snack tasting, trying favourites like Tim Tams and Shapes, and even learning how to make a Vegemite sandwich — which, unsurprisingly, only a handful of students enjoyed. With music playing, plenty of food, and lots of laughter, it was the perfect way to finish the week together before the long weekend.

To set the mood and start our week, our student lounge was beautifully transformed as we tapped into their creative side, decorating the space with Australian and Aboriginal flags, creating their own artwork, and proudly displaying their pieces around campus. Alongside the creative activities, students took the time to learn about the true meaning of Australia Day, gaining a deeper understanding of its history and significance. The combination of creativity, culture, and reflection made the lounge a vibrant and meaningful space for everyone to enjoy.

The main show for the week, our Aussie Animal Show, we learned over 100 fascinating facts about some of Australia’s most treasured animals. We had the chance to meet a wide range of creatures, including snakes, a baby saltwater crocodile, a koala, two different species of lizards, an echidna, and sugar gliders. Our amazing educator and animal handler, Hannah, let us take photos, touch the animals, and even hold them. The experience was full of laughs — Margaux bravely held Charlie the snake, but as soon as she felt its slippery texture, she flung it onto Gabriel, who screamed in surprise! It was an exciting, hands-on experience that everyone enjoyed.
Juan quickly earned the title of our “animal whisperer,” eagerly holding every animal he could get his hands on.

At the end of our week, our Aussie food tasting session was an absolute treat! We got to sample iconic Australian snacks like fairy bread, Tim Tams, Shapes, Red Frogs, and much more. The excitement didn’t stop at tasting—we also had a fun tutorial on how to make the perfect Vegemite sandwich, giving everyone a true taste of Aussie culinary culture. Laughter, curious first bites, and new flavour discoveries made it a deliciously memorable experience for all!
Rikuto gave the best reaction: one small bite and a hilariously sour face that had everyone laughing. It was a mix of curiosity, courage, and lots of laughter, making the experience unforgettable for all!
Thank you to everyone who joined our Activities this week!
