Lexis Students Get Creative with Classic Aussie Snacks!

A Flavour-Packed Afternoon of Fun and Friendship
On a cheerful afternoon this April 11, Lexis English Brisbane’s student lounge transformed into a delicious hub of Aussie flavours, sweet smells, and joyful energy. As part of our cultural immersion program, we hosted one of our most popular and tasty activities yet—Aussie Snack Making! This hands-on event brought together students from across the world to whip up iconic Australian treats while practicing English, building friendships, and, of course, enjoying a well-earned snack (or three!).
With Anzac Day approaching, it was the perfect time to honour Aussie traditions, try something new, and fill the room with laughter, storytelling, and the irresistible scent of chocolate and oats. Whether you were a seasoned snack maker or just there for the tasting, there was something for everyone.
Three Snacks, One Epic Afternoon
The activity featured three classic Aussie snack options to prepare: Vegemite wraps, ANZAC biscuit balls, and the crowd favourite—chocolate crackles. Each group of students rolled up their sleeves, got into teams, and got hands-on in the kitchen. And while not everyone was brave enough to face the bold, salty taste of Vegemite, a few courageous souls gave it a go—and even came back for seconds!
The Vegemite wraps were definitely a conversation starter. Some students hesitated at first, unsure about the strong flavour, but those who embraced the challenge ended up genuinely enjoying the experience—and more importantly, had a laugh sharing their first impressions!
Meanwhile, chocolate lovers rushed to the chocolate crackle station. With a mixture of cocoa, rice bubbles, and coconut, these nostalgic Aussie treats were both fun to make and absolutely delicious to eat. The best part? Students made extras and shared them around, creating the perfect moment for small talk and new introductions.
Then came the ANZAC biscuit balls—a twist on the traditional biscuit, made especially for the occasion. While not the classic recipe, these no-bake versions were just as tasty and perfect for our quick afternoon session. With oats, golden syrup, and coconut, the ANZAC biscuit balls were a hit, sparking conversations about history, holidays, and what ANZAC Day represents in Australia.
Sharing Snacks, Stories, and Smiles
After preparing their snacks, students mingled while the treats set in the fridge. That short wait turned into one of the most memorable parts of the afternoon. The room was buzzing with energy as students exchanged social media details, shared photos of their creations, and chatted about life in Australia.
The student lounge was full—every seat taken, every table filled with bowls, wrappers, and enthusiastic conversations. The sounds of laughter, kitchen utensils, and English in many accents created the vibrant, multicultural scene Lexis is known for. It wasn’t just about the food—it was about connection, confidence, and community.
Building Language Skills Through Real-Life Experiences
At Lexis English Brisbane, we believe that learning happens everywhere—not just in the classroom. Activities like Aussie Snack Making are part of our commitment to immersive, real-world learning. By cooking, chatting, laughing, and tasting, our students don’t just study English—they live it.
From practicing food-related vocabulary to working in teams and making new friends, this activity gave everyone a chance to speak English naturally, comfortably, and with purpose. And of course, take home a new favourite snack recipe!
