Exciting Activities at Lexis Brisbane: Ranking and trying Australian beer, Boomerang painting and a fun afternoon at Netherworld Bar and Arcade!
Recently at Lexis Brisbane, our activities have focused on friendship, adventure, and embracing the vibrant city lifestyle. We believe learning extends far beyond the classroom, giving students the chance to practise English naturally while forming meaningful connections and creating unforgettable memories with their friends.
From a fun-filled afternoon walk, discovering the beautiful church mosaic and the marvellous street art on our way to Netherworld Bar and Arcade. Students had time to introduce themselves, chat and discover different things about their classmates, all while enjoying practising their English. Our Boomerang Painting was inspired by Australia’s Indigenous culture, learning and discovering stories and facts about the way the Indigenous people would paint rocks and why they would paint dots. Aussie Beer Tasting is always a hit at the Brisbane Campus. This activity brought laughs and great times. We had a speaker playing music, and we were singing along while trying 7 different Australian-brewed beers.
Netherlands Bar and Arcade:
Our mid-week outing took us on a lovely afternoon stroll through the city and into Fortitude Valley. We spent our time talking, laughing and getting to know each other, as well as seeing some of Brisbane’s hidden street art and old churches turned into a bar! We made our way to Netherworld, which is a Retro Arcade and Bar with a large collection of vintage arcade games like Street Fighter, Pac-Man and Donkey Kong. Netherworld also provided free console games for us to play! Taizan played Pinball for the first time as well as Ester, and once they figured the game out, they scored very high. Netherworld has such a cool vibe, providing lots of interactive games to play; We decided to play “Heads Up” to practice our English, all screaming and laughing, trying to describe what was written on the other’s head. The Brisbane crew really enjoyed their time.

Boomerang Painting:
Emre, Peggie, Riley and Natenael took charge of our afternoon activity, making sure everyone had a fun and creative time painting boomerangs while practising their English. As they added colours and designs, they talked about shapes, patterns, and colours that the Indigenous Australians would use for their paintings, helping them use new words in a hands-on way. Other students joined us and made friendship bracelets so they could still be added to the fun! We played some music and all got to listen to HIT songs from each other’s countries.

Aussie Beer Tasting:
On Friday afternoons, we always host a fun and engaging activity. This week, our lexis brisbane students got to try, taste and rank 7 different beers from different breweries in Australia. We decided to give our spin to the activity and get beers from all the Lexis locations! We had Little Creatures from Perth, Tooheys from Sydney, Heads of Noosa from Noosa, XXXX Gold from Brisbane and Stone and Wood from Byron Bay, which was the top favourite and ranked the highest. We also tried Coopers from Adelaide and Great Northern Super Crisp, which is from Brisbane and the Gold Coast. We had such an enjoyable time – we ate some classic Aussie Thins chips, played music and sang to some classic hits from Australia and some of the students’ home countries too! We learnt interesting facts about each brewery and how long these beers have been around. We learnt and practised Aussie slang and spent time chatting with our old and new friends.

Thank you to everyone who joined these fun activities!
